Course Description: A theoretical study of the foundations
of statistics, including point estimation, interval estimation, and hypothesis
testing.
Course Content:
Course Prerequisites: STAT-685 or permission of the instructor.
Required textbook: Statistical Inference, Second Edition, by Cassela and Burger, Duxbury 2002. ISBN: 0-534-24312-6. The course will
focus on Chapter 7-9.
Class attendance policy: Class attendance is highly encouraged but not
mandatory.

Make-up policy: Each
assignment and test should be submitted before the due dates. If there is an
emergency, please contact the instructor to make the necessary arrangements for
adjusting the due dates.
Course Goals:
The prime objective of the course is to present techniques and basic results of
statistical inference procedures at a rigorous and advanced calculus level. Upon
completion of this course, students are expected to grasp the
statistical inference tools including point estimation, interval
estimation, and hypothesis testing.
Evaluation Procedures:
Assessments: All the homework, one midterm exam, and one final exam
will be evaluated and contributed to the final grade.
Grading Policy:
Grading Scale: 90-100 → A, 80-89 → B, 70-79 → C, 60-69 → D, 0-59 → F
