Course Objective:

The objective of this course is to provide students with a working introduction to some commonly used statistical methods. This course will focus on the application of the statistical methods to practical data analysis. The course will include the use of computer software SAS as an essential tool for data analysis. Through this course, Students are expected to know how to do data analysis with different statistical methods by using SAS or other statistical software.

 

Prerequisite: Stat 281 or 381, 410 or 510 or permission of the instructor.

 

Course Content:

·         T-test, F-test, X2-test

·         Confidence Intervals

·         Analysis of Variance

·         Simple Linear Regression

·         Multiple Linear Regression

·         Factorial Experiments

·         Design of Experiments

 

Required Text:

·         Statistical Methods, Second Edition, by Freund and Wilson, Academic Press 2003.

Chapter 6-10 and Chapter 12 (if we have enough time)

 

Grading Policy:

·         Homework  → 30%

·         Mid Term 1 → 20%

·         Mid Term 2 → 20%

·         Final Exam  → 30%

 

Grading Scale:

90-100 → A, 80-89 → B, 70-79 → C,  60-69 → D,  0-59 → F

Mid Term I (Chapters 5-6): Oct. 12, 2007

Mid Term II (Chapters 7-8): Nov. 16, 2007

Final Exam (Chapters 9-10): Dec. 21, 2007
