The Program:  The SDSU Master's Degree Program in Mathematics is intended to serve either as preparation for a career in research, industry, or education, or as a springboard to more advanced graduate work.  In particular, a program of study may be tailored to prepare the student for entry into the SDSU Computational Science and Statistics Program.  The Master’s Degree program is particularly strong in the areas of computational science, mathematical biology, and statistics.  However, students may work with professors whose areas of interest cover a wide range, among them being:  abstract algebra, bioinformatics, biostatistics, data mining, discrete mathematics, mathematical biology, mathematics education, numerical analysis, partial differential equations, Ramsey theory, and statistics.

Statistics Specialization:  In addition to the traditional mathematics track, a Specialization in Statistics is also available within the MS in Mathematics program.  For more information on the SDSU Statistics Graduate Program, please visit the statistics program's website.

Online Programs:  The MS in Mathematics is available online.  Most of the department’s graduate mathematics and statistics courses are available online on a regular basis; the schedule is available below.  Regular visits to campus are not required; however, the student must be present on the SDSU campus for the final oral examination at which the thesis, research paper, and/or coursework is defended.
